Fruits!

I love fruit I love eating fruit I love looking at fruit I love buying fruit I love growing fruit.

Blackberries - 4 stars

Fourth of April, 2026.

Blackberries were one of my top 3 fruits for a while, but I have changed my mind. I like berries generally for their picky-bits-ness, so that is a blackberry win. I tend to like fruits that are dark in colour, not sure why. Blackberries are a little more sour than I normally like, but I love them baked into things or as a compote. Blackberry crumble mmmmmmngfhm. They are a little expensive to buy fresh, but frozen for baking is so worth it.

Pomegranate - 5 stars

Fifth of April, 2026.

My favourite fruit!!! I love pomegranate!! I love getting out all of the seeds, it's so fun. I think for many people this would be annoying, but I thoroughly enjoy it. They are perfect for throwing in a bowl and picking at all day, or for putting in a snack box. I have frozen them before and eaten them cold and it was not my favourite, I think grapes are better for that, but it is also kind of nice. I like that they pop when you crunch them, and I like how they taste, and I like them as juice. The perfect fruit. Fuck yeah.

Black Plums - 3 stars

Twentieth of March, 2026.

After a month or two of alternating between apples and grapes, I got very excited to see nice plums in the grocery shop. I was also very quickly disappointed to find out that I bought the wrong kind! Bit into one expecting red flesh and was so sad to see orange. Still good and sweet and sour. No yuck bits. Many antioxidants. Decent fruit, but I wish they were red.

Royal Gala Apples - 4 stars

Sometime in February, 2026.

I think I'm allergic to apples. I like them anyway. Eating an apple while you walk through the city feels like the inverse of smoking a cigarette. Two sides of same coin. Very good. I can throw it in my bag loose and let it get beaten up and it will still be okay come apple time. Royal Galas are one of the better apple varieties, but not my favourite. They don't do the bad powdery feeling, they're not over sour. Cut them into slices! I can buy them all through the year for cheap. Good fruit, but if I eat them on an empty stomach I get SUPER nauseous for ages.

Watermelon - 3 stars

Early February, 2026.

I like watermelon, but I think it takes too much work to get through. I do not drive, so it means lugging a kilo of fruit home on the bus, then cutting it, then having way too much leftover. Unweidly fruit. I like eating it though! Yum as fuck and I like how it is crunchy and then disintigrates. Kind of tastes like nothing, but that's okay. Not worth the hassle for me, but if watermelon is presented to me I will eat it and enjoy it.

Cherries - 5 stars

Sometime in January, 2026.

I love cherries. MMMMMM YUM. Fun sized and good for me. I love grabbing a fistful of them from the bag and eating them over a piece of paper towel and spitting out the seeds. So fun so tasty. A little sour, sweet, not mushy, RED. You eat too many and you feel a little sick, but that's okay because it means you keep more cherries for later. They're hard to find outside of summer here, and really expensive when you do, so I eat an absurd amount of them December to February. One of the best fruits.

Black Grapes - 3 stars

Second of January, 2026.

Somehow this was my first fruit of the year?? No fruit on new year's day? Very yum. Ate a BIG pile of them with my lunch. Very solid fruit. Here, they are easy to find all year round, but they are the most expensive of the big grape 3. Also the best of the big grape 3, so. Hm. Sweet and crunchy and lovely. I do have to sift through for the yucky wrinkley ones, but that is okay. They have a very low nutrition:calorie ratio, as all grapes do. Very solid fruit, nothing special, but one that I eat again and again. Middle of the road 3 star.
