I binged the second season of this with my friend while semi-sick. Was quite a fun watch. These sorts of shows hit me a lot harder when I'm already feeling a little doomerish, and I was not when I watched this, so maybe that was a factor in my enjoyment? I think that the first season was better. I liked the last characters more, and the whole idea felt a lot more novel in season 1. I think the show taking a new set of people and making a story with the same general vibe was a great way to take it, but it also means that it is kind of predictable. In the first season you didn't have any idea of who was doing the 'right' thing, or what would happen to them. When you watch season two you sort of know what to expect. I guess. I think that doing this was much better than taking those other characters and trying to make something new from them though. I liked that it explored some different themes, I did not like that guy who ran the country club. He just bothered me. I could empathise with literally everyone else to some degree but he was just a douche. Anyway. Good season, worse soundtrack.
I'm super autistic about Chernobyl and radiation. I enjoyed this a lot. Watched it with someone else and had to get him to skip the pet dog snuff scenes for me. I don't really get why they were there. It was a little bit wrong, but it did a very good job at conveying feeling as well as information, which I think is the point of movies and shows. I did really really like it though and I entirely understand why it's so well rated. It felt like it was framed similarly to zombie movies, which seemed quite appropriate. I can't do zombie movies so it was kind of cool feeling the zombie feeling without there being zombies. Good as hell I loved it. Will rewatch one million times. Thank you other friend for giving me your HBO log in.
